MORNING DROP OFF CAR LINE PROCEDURE

Students in Grades 1-8 may be dropped off anytime after 7:30. There will be members of the PMA staff at the traffic circle supervising drop-off. During the warmer months the students will wait in their classroom lines outside the building.During the winter and during inclement weather, students should go directly to the gymnasium after hanging heir coats up in the locker room.

Grades 1-6

Pull as far as possible into the inner traffic circle to let your child out. Do not leave open spaces between vehicles when dropping off your child. Remain in line until the vehicle in front of yours has pulled forward. Pulling out ahead of others is a potential source of accident.

Grades 7-8

Beginning September 18th, 2008, parents of students in grades 7 and 8 are to drop off their children (students in grade 7,8 and siblings) using the front entrance to the school building.

  1. Use the traffic light on Lowell Road to enter and exit the grounds
  2. Take the first left (toward Anne Marie House) to the center avenue.
  3. Pull up around the circle by the statue of the Sacred Heart - the first car in line should pull up as far as the bird bath.
  4. When the teacher arrives for supervision of car line at 7:30 am, the children should be ready to exit the vehicles quickly.
  5. All siblings in grades 1-6 should get out at this time in order to eliminate another trip into the car line at the back of the school
  6. If you have a Kinder or Pre-K student that needs to go to the BEFORE SCHOOL PROGRAM, the 7th or 8th grader will walk him or her to the cafeteria.
  7. At 7:35 the teacher on duty will escort the students to the locker-room, and all other siblings will be dropped off with their class at the back of the building.
  8. If you pull onto the grounds after 7:35 am, you will need to use the MAIN AVENUE into the back of the building as there will be no one on duty at the Center Avenue to supervise the students.
  9. Please keep in mind that, although grades 6,7,8 enter the building at 7:35, they have 10 minutes to get to their house for prayer at 7:45 am (time of first bell). They are marked TARDY only if they enter the classroom after 7:45 am.

Pre-K

The car line for Pre-K forms in the rear parking lot. The Pre-K teachers will come out of the the main door at approximately 8:20am.

Once the teachers come out, the line can begin to move forward. Drive as far as possible into the traffic circle. The teachers will open your car door for your child. (The teacher who opens your door and assists your child may not be your child's teacher). Remain in line until the vehicle in front of yours has pulled forward. Pulling out ahead of others is a potential source of accident.

If you arrive after the line has started moving, you should still fall into the line by joining the line in the parking lot. Please do not go directly into the traffic circle from the driveway unless you are directed to do so or it is clear that there is no remaining car line.

Kindergarten

Beginning in 2008, the kindergartners will be dropped off at the front of the school instead of in the back. To drop off or pick up your child, you should enter the school grounds at the traffic lights on Lowell Rd. (Across from Tire Warehouse). Take the 1st Left (toward the Anne Marie House) and proceed up the long avenue leading up to the rotary in front of the main steps.

In the morning the teachers will not come out until 8:10 but you may line up earlier. Once the teachers come out, they will begin to unload the children. Once your child has been taken out of the car, you should proceed down the avenue and exit the way you came in. Please place your pink card with your child's name AND Class Code on your dash where the staff member can see it. This will aid staff in determining in which class line to place your child.

In the afternoon the teachers will come out with the children at 1:50 but you may line up earlier. Once the teachers come out, they will begin to place the children in the vehicles. Please place your pink card with your child's name AND Class Code on your dash where the staff member can see it. Once your child has been put in the car and is safely seated, you should proceed down the avenue and exit the way you came in.

IMPORTANT POINTS: The car line will go more quickly and smoothly if you teach your child to unbuckle and buckle themselves and have their backpacks and lunch boxes ready. PLEASE do not pull out and pass another car even if that other car is taking longer than expected. Unless a staff member directs you to move around, you should remain in line and wait for the line to start moving. Also try to have said your goodbyes prior to reaching the unloading area to make the traffic flow more quickly. The car line may seem hectic and confusing the first week or two but eventually as everyone gets familiar with the procedures, things will go quickly and smoothly.

AFTERNOON PICK UP CAR LINE PROCEDURE

All parents will be given color coded cards at the beginning of the year - Pink is for Kindergarten, Yellow for First Grade, Blue for Second graders, Orange for Grades 3-5 and Gray for grades 6-8. Parents should write their children's names and class codes (grade number followed by teacher's initials i.e. KPG, 1KP, etc) on the cards and place them on their car dashboard. This color-coded card system allows the traffic monitor to identify cars and direct them appropriatel.

PRE-K - Dismissal at 1:50

The Pre-K line forms in the back of the parking lot. Once the back row is full cars should fill in the 2nd row. Once the second row is full cars can continue the line down the driveway.

Once the Pre-K teachers come out, the line can proceed into the inner traffic circle where the teachers will assist the student in getting into the correct vehicle. Once your child is safely seated you may exit the traffic circle. Please wait until the car in front of you has moved forward to exit the circle.

If you are picking up your Pre-K child but also have a child in another grade, the traffic monitor will allow you to turn left after exiting the traffic circle and go to the back parking lot or re-enter the circle to wait for your other child's class. If you are directed back into the circle to wait you should wait at the outer circle.

KINDERGARTEN - DISMISSAL at 1:50

In the afternoon the teachers will come out with the children at 1:50 but you may line up earlier. Once the teachers come out, they will begin to place the children in the vehicles. Please place your pink card with your child's name AND Class Code on your dash where the staff member can see it. Once your child has been put in the car and is safely seated, you should proceed down the avenue and exit the way you came in.

For GRADES 1 and 2(2:10, 2:15) : If you arrive to pick up your child before 2:05, form a line on the far right beginning at the top of and continuing down the driveway. (Make sure your color card is on your dashboard).

For Grades 3- 5 (2:20): Parents of these children should remain in the carline down the right side of the driveway. As the line proceeds forward, if your child's class has not yet come out, you will be directed to enter the parking lot and wait in the first row. Parents should then remain where you are until you physically see your child outside in the waiting area. At that point you may proceed to the boarding area IF THERE IS AN OPEN SPACE AVAILABLE THERE. The car line monitor will direct you. Please do not block the entry/exit into the traffic circle. The car line monitor will be allowing traffic coming from the other direction to proceed to the boarding area as well so please be patient!

Once your child is in the vehicle, you must drive off the premises or back into the parking lot to wait for any older children.

For Grades 6 - 8 (between 2:25-2:30) . Parents of these children should remain in the carline down the right side of the driveway. As the line proceeds forward, if your child's class has not yet come out, you will be directed to enter the parking lot and wait in the back row. Parents should then remain where you are until you physically see your child outside in the waiting area. At that point you may proceed to the boarding area IF THERE IS AN OPEN SPACE AVAILABLE THERE.The car line monitor will direct you. Please do not block the entry/exit into the traffic circle. The car line monitor will be allowing traffic coming from the other direction to proceed to the boarding area as well so please be patient!

Once your child is in the vehicle, you must drive off the premises or back into the parking lot to wait for any older children.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO FOLLOW

  • Do not exceed a speed of 20 mph since the access road is considered a school zone.
  • Use your directionals when moving into or out of the parking lot.
  • Do NOT block the entrances or exits to the parking lot or the upper half of the traffic circle. The traffic monitors know you are waiting to get into the circle. Blocking these entry/exit points will prevent emergency vehicle access in case of emergency.
  • Do not attempt to engage in conversation with the staff while in the car line.
  • Under no circumstances should animals be taken out of cars onto the school grounds
  • Remain in your vehicle and in the car line while waiting for your child. Do not walk to the pick up area since this adds more pedestrian traffic and increases the chance of accidents.
  • Please place the color coded cards on your dash for faster identification.
  • Pull all the way into the pick-up/drop-off area of the circle.
  • Parents of grades 3-8 should remain in the car line (on the right) at all times unless directed by the traffic monitor to enter the parking lot/traffic circle.
  • No one is to park in the outer part of the traffic circle to wait for students. Please enter the area only when proceeding to actually pick up your child. The wait line begins at the top of the driveway.
  • Please be PATIENT and COURTEOUS especially in the beginning of the school year when people are readjusting to the car line procedure.

TARDINESS POLICY

In an effort to eliminate chronic tardiness situations, PMA is establishing a new procedure for students who arrive late.

  1. A child in grades Pre-K through Grade 5 is considered tardy if he/she arrives after the set arrival time for that grade level and the class has already entered the building.
  2. For grades 6-8, students are considered tardy if they are not in their "houses" by 7:45. The classes begin entering the building at 7:35. Because of the short drop off time for the middle school l (7:30-7:35), some leeway has been provided for these students.
  3. Any student who arrives late, after his/her class has entered the building, must report to the main office on the first floor, accompanied by the parent or adult responsible for transporting him/her that morning, in order to sign in and provide the reason for the tardiness, as well as to obtain the tardy slip needed for admission into the classroom.
  4. Once the tardiness has been cleared at the office, the child will be allowed to join his/her class.
  5. Wen entering the building, adults are required to park their vehicles in the parking lot. Vehicles must never be left unattended in the traffic circle at the start or end of the school day, since this hinders the traffic flow for other families.
