PMA ADMISSIONS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When will I know if there is an opening for my child? Existing school families have first priority to enroll additional children and have until end of second week of January to do so. The number of openings for new families will be determined by first week of February. Selections will be made by end of first week of February. All wait listed applicants will be notified.
Is there a waiting list? There is not a waiting list. However, applications for 2006-2007 school year will be retained until all openings are filled. Once enrollment is complete, remaining applications will not be retained. Interest in future enrollment will require a new application.
Can I apply now for enrollment in two years? No. Applications will be accepted in October for the following fall enrollment.
How old must my child be to enter Kindergarten? Your child must be 5 years old by September 30, of the school year in which admission is sought.
How many students are allowed in each grade? 23 to 25 students are allowed in one classroom. Not to exceed 30.
Does my child have to be Catholic? No, but all students are required to participate in religious instructions and attend Mass with their class as scheduled. Presentation of Mary Academy admits students of any race, color national origin or ethnic background to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students in this school.
What is the Tuition?
Tuition for grades 1-5 is $3,950.00, for grades 6-8 $4,050 and for Kinder Full Day $4,100.00. The Books/Supplies/Computer Fees have not changed from last year they are the same.
Three payment options are offered.
- One payment: August 1st
- Twelve payments: via FACTS tuition management plan
Is an interview required? Yes. An interview is required for each student along with his/her parents with appropriate faculty. Students requesting admission to grades 5-8 will have an interview with the Principal.
Are uniforms required? Yes. All students are required to wear uniforms purchased at Harvey Uniforms 1-800-462-8192. There is no uniform for Kindergarten, however we do recommend dresses, slacks, jeans and other appropriate school clothing. School Handbooks cover this subject in depth.
May I observe a class? No.
Is Preschool offered? Yes. We offer a Preschool program for four year olds.
How early can my child arrive to school and how long can he/she remain after school? Before-school is available beginning at 6:30 a.m. It is mandatory that students arriving before 7:30am when supervision on the playground is provided, take advantage of this service. The after-school program is available daily until 6:00pm. There is a fee.

Grades 6-7-8 - 7:35-2:25pm
Grades 4-5 - 7:50-2:15pm
Grade 3 - 8:00-2:15pm
Grade 2 - 8:00-2:05pm

What is the first day of school?
August 29, 2006 - First day for Gr. 1-4, 1/2 day
August 30, 2006 - First day for Gr. 5-8, 1/2 day
August 31, 2006 - Full day for Grades 1-8
September 1, 2006 - No School
September 4, 2006 - Labor Day - No School
Do you offer Bus transportation? Yes, but it is limited and coordinated with the Local Public Bus (Hudson). Most students are driven to and from school in private Cars, and utilize carpools.
What is the Curriculum? Religion, reading, phonics (grades 1-3), mathematics, English, spelling (gr 1-6)/vocabulary (gr 7-8), science, social studies, French, art, music, computer, physical education, penmanship and library.
Do you offer sports programs and extra curricular activities? Yes.
Cross-country Running, CYO Basketball, Cheerleading, Softball, Choir, Drama Club, First Lego League and Battle of the Books are among the extracurricular activities offered.
Do you allow volunteers? Yes. A volunteer training program is offered at the school, and volunteers comprise a valuable segment of our school family. Volunteers must go through our orientation program which requires a state criminal background check.
Do you offer hot lunches? No, but five times a week a special lunch is offered : Monday - Chicken Sandwich, Tuesday - Hot Dog, Wednesday - Pizza, Thursday - Hamburger, and Friday - Pasta.
