PMA PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

We are now accepting registrations for PMA's Pre-Kindergarten Program for four-year olds which will open in the fall of 2007. Contact June Nolet (x 203) in Admissions for a registration form or for more information. You can also contact her by email at Juneonoletadmissions@hotmail.com

AGE REQUIREMENTS

Students admitted to the pre-k program must be four years old by September 30th.

Birth certificate and baptismal certificate (if applicable), as well as a copy of immunization records are required.

HOURS

Full Day Program: Monday through Friday 8:30 - 2:00 pm

Half Day Program: Monday through Friday 8:30 - 11:30 am

Extended day care available 6:30 am - 6:00 pm

STUDENT/TEACHER RATIO

The student/teacher ratio for the pre-k program will be 12 students per adult.

UNIFORMS

The uniform will consist of the PMA polo shirt and gray slacks for both boys and girls. Parents have the option of purchasing the jumper for girls but it is not required.

TUITION

Tuition Fees have not yet been established but will be approximately the same as our Kindergarten program ($4100) for the full-day pre-kinder program per year ($24 per day) or $3000 for the half-day program ($17 per day).

 

PRE-KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM


Religion

  • Introduce simple prayers and teach the importance of reverence when praying
  • Recognize how much God loves each of us
  • Increase their knowledge of the major events in the life of Jesus
  • Increase their knowledge of the Christian meaning of Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter
  • Participate in school-sponsored Christian Outreach Projects

Language Arts

  • Build their foundation of communication skills which includes: letter recognition, phonics, and storytelling
  • Use a sentence or sentences to express needs
  • Focus during circle or story time to learn to listen to others
  • Develop comprehension by way of predicting outcomes, retelling stories, sequencing events, and following a three-step verbal direction.

Math

  • Recognize and sequence numbers 0 to 20
  • Replicate 2 part counting patterns such as 1-2-1-2
  • Sort, match, compare, classify objects
  • Recall up to 4 items using visual memory
  • Recognize basic shapes

Science

  • Recognize and identify types of weather and the four seasons
  • Encourage the child's power of observation
  • Be more aware of their personal hygiene and nutrition

Social Studies

  • Be aware of state and national holidays and customs associated with each
  • Gain insight into multiculturalism

Basic Skills and Socialization

  • Recognize first and last name in upper and lower case format
  • Understand positional concepts (left, right, top, bottom, etc.)
  • Develop greater self-awareness
  • Transition from one activity to another
  • Improve working and playing cooperatively

Art/Music

  • Appreicate music through singing and listening to a variety of music
  • Participate in the playing of rhythm instruments
  • Develop self-expression through various media and materials
  • Recognize the eight basic colors

Fine and Gross Motor Skills

  • Develop a pincer grasp
  • Grasp, hold, and manipulate objects
  • Cut in straight and curved lines
  • Draw lines and shapes
  • Improve coordination through hopping, balancing, skipping, throwing, and catching
