PMA TRACK & FIELD
Welcome to those students interested in running in PMA’s track and field program. 2008 marks the first spring that PMA will be a full participant in the Tri-County Athletic League in track and field. Since this is a school league, we need our students to fully commit to the program, which consists of practices twice per week and 6 track meets. Please refer to the schedule on the back of this sheet. All team members will be expected to attend all practices and meets. Problems with other games (soccer, softball, baseball, lacrosse) may be worked out by entering early events in the meets as long as Mrs. Boire has prior knowledge of the conflict in writing.
PRACTICES AND PICK-UP
Training will begin on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 and run every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. through the end of May. Events such as hurdles, shot put, discus, long jump, and relays will be taught along with practicing sprinting, middle, and long distance runs. Although some students will be eventually specializing in shorter events, jumps, or throws, all athletes will be expected to participate in overall conditioning drills, especially in the beginning of the season.
For those children enrolled in the after-school care program, please send in a note to allow your child to be dismissed from running to the after-school care program at the conclusion of practice if you will not be there by 4:00 to pick the children up.
Please remember to send the students to practices with proper running attire which includes shorts or sweat pants, sweatshirt, athletic shoes and a WATER BOTTLE. If it is cold, layers of clothing are best and gloves and hats are always helpful. All athletic wear should be dress-code appropriate meaning no short shorts or tank tops.
CANCELLATIONS
Practices will generally NOT be held in inclement weather or even if the weather has been threatening to be inclement. I will make a decision by noon on practice days, and cancellation announcements will be made during the children's lunch. I will also put the cancellation on my voice mail (extension 402) by 12:35. We will sometimes run in light rain, especially if it develops late in the day, but you may choose not to send your child. Please try not to bother the office with phone calls when possible.
